And in Minneapolis, Childbirth educator Lisa Erbes passes on information about a new policy affecting
UMMC/Riverside (but not other FV
hospitals):
Beginning September 15, 2010,
the Birthplace at the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s hospital
will be asking that the vast majority of healthy infant circumcisions occur in
the baby’s clinic after 1-2 weeks and up to 28 days after birth in the
baby’s clinic. This is intended to ensure that a baby is feeding
well, is stable and gaining weight prior to this procedure.
Exceptions will be made in certain situations and this policy does not apply to
babies admitted to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit for long-term care.
For more information, speak with your MD or Certified Nurse Midwife. It
is also wise to check with your baby’s health insurance provider to make
sure that circumcision is covered by insurance.
